confessions of a shopaholic movie: fail.

i think around eighth grade i discovered the shopaholic books (actually i remember quite vividly a fellow flautist in band telling me about it) and fell in love. the british humor is excellent, the story addicting. i went on from "confessions of a shopaholic" to enjoy "shopaholic takes manhattan," "shopaholic ties the knot," "shopaholic and sister," and "shopaholic and baby." all amazing.
naturally i was excited when i saw previews for a movie coming out based on the books. i was a little disappointed that the movie would not take place in london like the novel, and that the heroine was not british. but i went to see it anyway. MISTAKE.
not only was the movie totally different from the book (as is usually this case with these things, i know), but instead of sly british humor that made the main character out to be an empowered woman despite her flaws, such as addiction to shopping, the movie only contained tackiness, patheticness (yes i am making that a word), and just depression-inducing consumerism and helpless woman characters. i do not know how these film makers were able to get their movie passed by the author of the novels.
ugh!
